Hello Doctor, I have a question regarding viral pneumonia, my mother has been diagnosed with viral pneumonia and its been 12 days that she has been treated she was on ventilator for days in ICU and now shes out of ICu however on oxygen mask/cannula as whenever she breathes without cannula her saturation drops to 68...Doctors have been giving her antibiotics, but I read on internet that for viral pneumonia antivirals should be given and antibiotics is for bacterial pneumonia...doctor here have prescribed merotrol injection too which I would like to know is right for the treatment
- Viral pneumonia can be complicated with bacterial infection. The doctor has prescribed merotrol because he thinks she has nosocomial infection due to hospitalization.
- In this case, if microorganisms are sensitive from merotrol, then this is a good option for the cure.
Hope your mother get well ASAP!
