Suggest Treatment For Vision Problem Of A Premature Baby

Hi Doctor My son is a prematured baby born in 24 weeks and had a lot of health issues during his stay in hospital. During his stay he developed ROP Level 4 in left eye and 5 in right eye. Post the surgery, he still doesnt have any vision in right eye where detachment was complete and in left he has high Myopia with power of -13. He is now adjusted 9 months. Doctor had prescribed glass of power -6 six month back but last week she suggested to change it to -13. I am very worried what to do and how...Please advise Raj

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The high myopia number indicates development disorders of the retina and lens related eye systems. Though there are very limited chances of precise recovery so far as vision acuity is concerned, there are data available for the betterment of the condition. If the issue is related to vascular over growth, VEGF inhibitor are best therapeutic models to follow. In some cases, surgery may be a part of better result step.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
