Suggest Treatment For Visual Hallucinations In An Elderly Person
Hi! My 89 year old grandmother has complained for about a year now of feeling that she has sand in her mouth and sometimes in her hair. She says even the water has sand. It tears me apart not to be able to help her. She is constantly asking me to take the sand out of her mouth. Her doctor says it could be sight effects of a stroke she had about 3 years ago. Took her also to the dentist with no success......so frustrating. ....appreciate any advice you can offer. Thankyou kindly Dr. Lisa
I appreciate your concern for your grandmother. Your grandmother perceives that water or her hair or in her mouth there is a sand. This not true in real. She is having false perception of things. Is this false perception occurring with other things also? Considering her age, this kind of old age problems are possible due to atrophic changes in the brain. This is not very serious issue in that sense. My advice is that you should visit Psychiatrist for this. He will surely help you to deal with this problem. Meanwhile talk to your grandmother, comfort her and love her. This will definitely help her.
