I have Graves disease and had been on Methimazole for a few years. I recently had surgery to remove thyroid. Upon the procedure, it was stopped due to a vocal cord paralysis. The morning after surgery blood was drawn. Later that afternoon my surgeon comes in and reports that surprisingly my numbers were looking normal. I was released until my voice returns. This was last week. My Endo nurse called me yesterday to tell me that within the next four weeks I was to come in a get more labs done. I make arrangements for transportation to get the labs done today so that when I see my surgeon on Wednesday, to remove stitches, I would have some fresh results so that I can start deciding on what to do next. After I returned home from getting the blood drawn, my Endo triage nurse informs me that I was not to come in for four weeks. That is not what she had told me the day before. She tells me that they will NOT run the blood again and it would be disposed. Telling me that it would take at least 4 weeks for any changes to occur. The body, by what I have read, is continually making adjustments. My question is, then what would it hurt to test it now. So after one week, the thyroid WILL NOT show even a single point of difference in the labs. I was really hoping to get some more answers next week, so that I may plan my future. WHAT WOULD IT HURT TO TEST IT NOW!
