Suggest Treatment For Voice Hoarseness, chronic Cough And Nasal Congestion
Hi, I have lost my voice, coughing a lot..... flowed by a humming sound while catching my breathing. This has been the case for approx 3 days. It started with allergy......nasal congestion, sore throat and sneezing. No cold or flu so far. Can this be resolved with OTC medicine or should I see a doctor? Thank you
Hello and welcome to HCM, The symptoms mentioned by you- nasal congestion, sore throat, sneezing, humming sound while catching breathing are due to allergic process. Over the counter drugs are unlikely to help with these symptoms. Anti-allergic treatment and nasal decongestant are required to control the allergy followed by symptomatic treatment. Symptomatic treatment consists of steam inhalation and saline gargles. Steam inhalation will help in nasal congestion and gargles will provide soothing effect to the sore throat. I suggest you to consult an ENT specialist to prescribe anti-allergic and nasal decongestant. In the meanwhile you can start with steam inhalation and gargles.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
