General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for the query. I understand your concern. Water retention in premenstrual time is due to effect of hormones Progesterone, prolactin & estrogen .. & the symptoms disappear after menses. In pre menopausal age, retention may vary in degree due to fluctuating levels of hormones. It will continue up to the menopause . * Home management is by increasing physical activity in daily routine/ drop amount of salt in diet/ eat healthy diet with plenty of fruits, salads, vegetables, nuts & whole grams. * In case home management is not sufficient .. you should consult a gynecologist .. he may think of offering you following treatment as per your needs. - Calcium/ magnesium /Vitamin B co9mplex or vitamin E. - Diuretics to remove excess water retention from body,
Thanks.
