Suggest Treatment For Weight Gain While On Belviq

I just started taking Belviq for weight loss seven days ago. I ve noticed that instead of losing weight, I am gaining. I am exercising and curing my portions to between 1200-1400 calories per day. I know this is a side effect but am wondering if I will actually start losing or if I should stop taking this drug?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Because you are gaining weight while you are exercising, cutting the food portions and having a medication that normally should cause you to loose weight, it might be advisable to have a blood test to rule out thyroid problems (TSH and FT4). Thyroid can affect the weight of the patient and if it is not producing enough hormones it may cause patients to have unexplained weight gain.

Also make sure you have no swelling of legs which would mean edema and fluid retention as the cause of the weight gain. In this cases you will need to see your doctor as soon as possible.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
