Hello doctor, about a month ago I noticed a large ulcer on my right tonsil. It s seemed to have healed but now the pain is back with some alarming differences. My right tonsil now has a white/yellow layer of skin covering it (doesn t appear to be pus but discolored skin) it is bleeding slightly and it has developed a ridge of extra tissue. Please consult.
Hi Dear, Welcome to HCM. Understanding your concern.
The symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards condition known as Tonsilloliths also known as tonsil stones or tonsillar calculi . They are calcifies material inside tonsils . Though this problem may cause discomfort, it is not dangerous and is usually easily treatable. Tonsilloliths, are formed when this trapped debris hardens, or calcifies. This tends to happen most often in people who have chronic inflammation in their tonsils or repeated bouts of tonsillitis. They usually appear white in color . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination and to rule out condition like pus formation and tonsil burst . Doctor may remove then through minor surgery and put you on antibiotics . Till then scrap gently with brush and do warm saline rinses .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
