Suggest Treatment Forchronic Inflammation In Legs, Ankles And Feet

I have chronic inflammation in both legs, ankles and feet. Most of the time, the inflammation is gone when I get up in the morning, but returns and gets worse through out the day. This has been going on for several years, but seems to be getting worse. My primary doctor has done testing to see if any circulation or blood clot issues exist and all testing came back negative. I recently have changed my diet to lots of fruits, vegetables and protein. No processed sugar or other processed foods. I have lost 13 pounds. I thought eating more healthy and losing some weight might improve the issue. I can t wear sandals, or open toe shoes because the whole foot becomes swollen. Please help!

Hi,

As certain blood tests related to circulation came negative, venous insufficiency or blood clot in the lower limb can be safely excluded. You have not mentioned your age / sex. Well, it can be natural hormonal changes.

Other causes to rule out are:
- Injury or infection
- Lymphedema
- Cirrhosis of the liver
- Kidney problem
- Being overweight can too cause build up of fluid in the feets, legs and ankle (so although you have lost weight but haven't mentioned how much you were weighing prior to that)

Make sure to consult a medical specialist for relevant examination (heart, liver and kidney) and investigations. Till then:
- Reduce your salt intake
- Elevate your legs (above your heart)
- Avoid wearing tight clothing which hampers blood circulation
- Wear stockings or compression socks
- Make sure to move around, if sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
