Suggest Treatment Impetigo And Chest Infection

Hi My 31 year old daughter was diagnosed with impetigo a week ago, It was on her arm. She got a cream and oral antibiotics for a chest infection. She has one day of pills left but her leg is breaking out today with dry itchy red dots. She called Dr back and was told to finish pills. Seems strange to me.

Hi,

It is not likely an allergic reaction to medication because these tend to occur by 2 to 3 days after the start of medication.

She can be having an allergic reaction due to contact with other agents however so if she remembers using anything new on the skin, this would need to be eliminated. Impetigo is contagious and can spread from one aspect of the body to the other, so it is possible that this is occurring.

Another possibility is insect stings. The general treatment is the same:

- oral anti histamine to help with the itching. These are over the counter like Benadryl, Claritine, Zyrtec or allegra. If it is related to impetigo, the course of antibiotics would need to be lengthened.
