Suggest Treatment Of Sinus Infection And Tooth Abscess

About two months ago I went to a dental school because my top last back molar filling came out. The dental student hit my last back molar and the molar in front of it (2nd molar)with a tool. To me it seemed the student was hitting my 2nd molar really hard and I thought Wow, my tooth must be really strong on how hard he is hitting it. Anyway, the filling in the last top molar was re-filled and upon getting ready to leave my 2nd molar was really aching - the tooth that was not worked on, just hit by a tool. By evening my pain(ache) was about a 9 and I was putting my hand to my jaw because the pain. I wondered if the student quite possibly cracked my tooth? It s been two months now, the pain persists, 7 or 8, with sometimes a strange kind of like slight perhaps salt taste coming from mouth. The problem is I became sick with a tooth abscess on other side of my mouth, within about a week, and now possibly sinus infection (started the last few weeks), and the infection has continued over two months with fevers and aches. I have been taking pain relievers for the fever (low-grade) and some dental procedures (extraction, root Canal, and deep cleaning - feeling worse not better) but that 2nd molar I thought it was better but I did not realize the tooth is still hurting because pain relievers. I still have a funny taste. Dentist tells me it s sinus . But this pain in 2nd molar and funny taste from top of tooth was before I was sick? I really think my 2nd molar may have been cracked. The pain (ache) hurts where I want a root canal. How do I get the dentist to really listen to my concern. Do I have to wait until I get over this infection, maybe in the sinus being cleared before the doctor will take me serious and think maybe there is a crack? My 2nd molar has not felt right since the dental student hit it. And if by chance there was a crack, could that cause an infection, or just pain (ache) and sometimes funny taste from top of tooth? I ask this because for two months I ve been on three different antibiotics and my body can t get rid of this infection (low-grade fever and body aches persists) and doctors trying to figure out where the infection is coming from. Please help, any much needed advice would be very appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

Well, the first thing that you need to do is to get an x-ray of your second molar tooth done so that the exact cause of pain can be ruled out.

At times pain can be very much due to the cracked or fractured tooth but it is less likely to happen with percussion or tapping of the tooth. So you should get an x-ray done to confirm.

Salty tasting discharge can be most probably infectious fluid or pus.

So firstly get an x-ray done and also start with a course of antibiotics like Augmentin and take painkillers like Ketorolac for reducing pain. You should also do warm saline gargles.

Gargle with an antiseptic mouthwash like Chlorohexidine. In case if the tooth is fractured or infection you should get the tooth treated with root canal treatment or extraction depending on the condition of the tooth.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
