Suggest Treatment Option For Depression And Anxiety

I have had depression & anxiety for 20 some years. I am currently taking paroxitine (40mg./day) and alprazolam (1mg 4x/day).I have tried many other ssri s & none seem to work after a while. I would like to try something else but can t stand the thought of going through the withdrawal/startup period again as it has always been terrible.I m 61 - maleI would also like to know if there is a more effective anxiety medication as even when I take 4mgs of the zanax at once it doesn t even seem to have much (if any) effect.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. A lot of individuals dont show response to medicines and their depressive and anxiety symptoms persist. In such case either the doses of drug are increases or the drug is replaced by some other more potent drug or augmentation of drugs is done by some adjuvant drug. You are taking 40 mg Paroxetine and the doses are good still your symptoms are persisting. In such case you can visit your doctor to add some other drug along with your drugs to augment the therapy. Medicines like Lithium, Lamotrigine, Bupropion when used with SSRIs show excellent results in resistant depression. If Xanax at 4 mg doses is not working then other benzodiazepine like Clonazepam or Lorazepam can be used. Visit your doctor for proper prescription.
