Hello,

Brown vaginal discharge, also called spotting is one of the most common early signs of pregnancy. Urine pregnancy test can give accurate results after 1 week of missed period or at least after 3-4 weeks of unprotected intercourse but may not give accurate results when taken earlier. It may be a good idea to repeat urine pregnancy test accordingly.

However, frankly speaking, chances of pregnancy can be unpredictable when cycles are irregular but there is no harm in repeating the urine pregnancy test to rule out/confirm the same.

A few other causes of spotting can be starting or stopping hormonal form of birth control recently, stress, recent change in diet, weight and physical activity, PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome, especially when cycles are irregular), etc.

If the repeat urine pregnancy test is negative, I would recommend consulting an OBGYN, wherein a physical exam and a battery of tests such as blood work, thyroid profile, ultrasound scan pelvis and abdomen, etc. may be done to evaluate spotting, irregular cycles.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help. All the very best!

Regards,
