Suggest Treatment To Be Taken After Being Bitten By A Dog

I was bitten on the outer thigh just above my knee by my own dog. There was minimal skin injury as I was wearing jeans, but there was a bruise that was very tender at the site. The bruising has faded after a week but a lump remains and it is still tender. I don t believe there is any infection as it is not warm and is no longer discolored. Any idea what the lump may be? Should I see a doctor or will it gradually subside? Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for your query.
I appreciate your concern for the painful lump following a dog bite.

Assuming that you have been given the treatment of dog bite in the form of cleaning and dressing of the wound, inj tetanus toxoid and anti rabies vaccines on scheduled days, it seems you have developed some sort of hematoma or abscess which is causing you painful swelling (lump) at the site of bite.

I advise you to kindly consult doctor/surgeon for proper evaluation, may be you need to undergo incision and drainage of the abscess.

Hope this answers your query.
