Suggest Treatment To Control GGT Level

I have had a gamma Gt done it was 340. I stopped drinking alcohol several weeks ago. ALT and AST were normal. Besides complete abstinence from alcohol, eating well, and diet is there anything else I could do to being GGT to normal range? How long will that take or have I damaged my liver beyond repair?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Increase in your GGT enzyme level is definitely due to alcohol induced liver damage as this enzyme activity is increased by alcohol.
Since you say that you ave stopped alcohol intake, it should come down over time.
It would take about 6 months to an year for the levels to reach baseline.
In the mean time, avoid eating fatty foods and junk foods. Eat healthy and nutritious foods. You can also supplement with Vitamin E, Selenium and Lipotrophic factors regularly, which should help the liver tissues to recover back to normal.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
