Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal, MD.
Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query
The fact remains that people whose sugars are controlled too tightly are often at a risk of developing
hypoglycemia. This is probably the same reason why your father is developing hypoglycemias.
You have said that his sugar is well controlled. There is a possibility that the sugars are so tightly controlled that any extra amount of exercise, or any reduced diet will make the sugars low for him.
It is like a balance between the things that increase the blood sugars, and things that decrease the blood sugar. In his case the latter is more than the former.
The best way would be to reduce the control of the sugar. Relax it more, so he will have ample sugar to keep him going even when he has exercised a bit more or eaten less. In other words, reduce the anti diabetes medicines.
From the query, I am unsure about the medicines used. So I will be unable to suggest means to reduce the dose of medicine.
Please feel free to contact me for further information with added details on the medications he is on.
Suggest testing a
HbA1C. If its too near the normal, or subnormal, we know that the sugars are actually too tightly controlled and the medicines need to be reduced.
I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above/if any other so I can be of help further.
I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.
