Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a chronic cough off & on since I was in the 5th grade. I m 66 & still coughing. I have been told it s allergy s but, when I had the skin test it show no allergy s . The blood work was very high for allergy s. I can feel a drainage in the back of my throat & also, a tickle in my throat. What can I do for the coughing? Also, have had chest x-rays.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have chronic cough since childhood which is due to chronic lung infection or bronchitis which can cause chronic cough. Need not to worry much. I would suggest you to visit pulmonologist once and get it examined. You should go for pulmonary function tests as well to check exact level of infection. You need inhaled bronchodilators and antihistamine drug. As you had x-ray chest normal, you should take an opinion of an ENT Surgeon to see for the ENT causes like allergy, post-nasal drip and so on and a CT scan. You should take cough expectorants as well. You should use mist humidifiers in room.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
