My mother is 63 years old and she has had COPD for many years now. Here lungs are constantly full of mucous. Is there a procedure that can be done to remove the mucous; or is there any medication that will remove the mucous? She coughs uncontrollably throughout the entire day and her breathing is horrible because of all the mucous.
Hi. I can understand your concern. COPD is a chronic disease. So better to consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test). PFT is needed for the diagnosis of COPD. It will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment of bronchitis is based on severity only. She may need inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) Don't worry, she will be alright. Hope I have solved your query. Wish you good health. Thanks.
