Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I would like to ask about Tuberculosis. My cousin s husband has a TB of the ribs I suppose but the doctor who diagnosed him said it was TB of the spine. His 2 ribs are already deteriorating and needed to be operated as advised. The doctor said it is almost going into cancer stage already. His family is financially incapable of producing money for the operation (almost half million in Pesos). We, wanted to know if there are still possibilities for him to survive if he will undergo the said operation? If yes, how many percent? He is having difficulties in moving now and badly needs assistance even in changing clothes. He could hardly walk at times also. Please advise. Thanks.
TB rarely goes to cancer. It goes to the bone and to get the infection out requires removing it with surgery. That and the right antibiotics and the area heals up pretty fast. Without the surgery, antibiotics MIGHT work but it would be many months and not that likely they would work.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
