Suggest Ways To Deal With A Controlling, Narcissistic And Manipulative Person

Ok. My daugher-in-law was self-mutilating - cutting herself - before she became my son s girlfriend. The first time I met her, having she and my son over for dinner to meet his new girlfriend, she swamped me with terrible things about her mother and on and on, instantly. It was astonishing and frightening. She virtually vomited her life s story in seconds. it was indescribeable. I was aware there was something wrong with her. There was no reason for her to vomit this information to me. Anyway, it s gone on from there. I understand from her now she used to cut herself. She s controlling, narcissistic, and manipulative. She s destructive to my son s family b ut not hers of course. I also believe she s capable of loving. Suggestions?

Hello,

Dealing with a narcissist is not easy but difficult. You cannot expect a narcissist to speak the truth, have true love, share good times, find peace or feel safe. You are suggested to get her clinically examined so that she can be psychologically evaluated. There is no cure but the symptoms can be controlled by Psychotherapy. Conservative treatment can be given to control the symptoms.

Lifestyle changes like cutting on addictions if any, stay more content with life, stay focused on constructive work, etc. It is difficult to change narcissists. However, you can accept them, speak to them, insist on immediate actions not promises, set boundaries but still you may need professional help. Stay connected with a counsellor / psychiatrist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
