Suggest Ways To Deal With Anxiety And Fear While On Self Detox From Alcohol

I am an alcoholic. I am attempting to self-detox by tapering. I am experiencing dry heaves, a lot of diahrreah, much anxiety and extreme fatigue. At what point do I simply need to go to a hospital... To be honest, I'm quite scared, but I am under much stress and am experiencing extreme anxiety in general resulting general life circumstances. At what point do I just say "uncle" ..... Thank-you for your time...

Hello thanks for asking from Health Care Magic for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Alcohol is a brain depressant substance and when its intake is reduced after intake for long periods of time withdrawal in form of insomnia, restlessness, anxiety, tremors, hallucinations or some times seizures, is seen. You have developed sever anxiety, fatigue and diarrhoea on reducing the intake by self. In my opinion though you have passed the acute stage of withdrawal still you should consult a psychiatrist for proper detox treatment. Medicines like Benzodiazepines as Lorazepam, Chlordiazepoxide, Clonazepam etc can be used for anxiety and restlessness. These medicines will also prevent any alcohol withdrawal delirium.

Please don't try the detox at home and visit a psychiatrist as you have developed withdrawal symptoms.

Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
