Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I really hate how I look and it's starting to impact the way that I interact with other people. I constantly worry about one specific part of my appearance and check on it daily, even after people have told me to stop. I've done things that probably have been the healthiest in order to ensure that that flaw in my appearance doesn't worsen, but it constantly comes to my mind throughout the day and makes me feel terrible. All I can seem to think about is that one thing. Is there anything that I can do?
Hi dear welcome to HCM , After going through your query it appears you are very much concerned about your appearance and this concern is excessive as it is persistent even after other peoples assurance.you may be having body dismorphic disorder along with associated anxiety.you should be relaxed and consult a psychiatrist.
I went through your details. The problem you are mentioning is not social anxiety. In fact it is obsession. You are anxious because of the obsession you have, the impulsive thoughts you have. In turn you be obsessive because of the anxiety which arises out of that obsession. Therefore, it is the obsession (the reason behind the behavior) needs treatment.
Conventional treatment like counseling may not help you. Over and above you have tried many techniques by yourself. I suggest the following:
1. Maintain a cognitive diary where you write all your obsessive thoughts. 2. Reassure you many times about the obsession which you have no control over. 3. Consult a psychologist for cognitive behavior therapy and occupational therapy.

Hope this answers your query. Further clarifications are welcome. Good luck. Take care.
