Suggest Ways To Manage Pain After Hip Replacement Surgery
Hi, I am 33 and have been diagnosed with AVN. I recently underwent a post exterior hip replacement in my right hip. I was prescribed oxycodone for the post op pain and have dependent on that painkiller. I have already started to show cysts in my left hip and the pain in my knees is growing stronger everyday. I know there are going to be more surgeries on the horizon for me which means more painkillers. I am also an alcoholic who has been sober for two years, I do not want to increase my dependence on the oxycodone to treat the pain and I have been wondering if cannabis has been shown to be of any help in managing the pain? Marajuana is a no no in the AA community but so is the abuse of pain killers, and of the two I think the cannabis would be a far healthier form of pain control to someone like me who already has a fragile liver. Just looking for some advice as a the pain grows. Thanks

Suggest Ways To Manage Pain After Hip Replacement Surgery
Hello, To manage pain after hip replacement surgery you should take the medicines prescribed by your treating doctor. If you think the pain reliever does not suit you, you should discuss it with your treating doctor so that you can get the appropriate medicines. To relieve pain keep your foot elevated while sitting on a stool & on a pillow while on bed. Apply ice, exercise with the help of a physiotherapist. Go for follow up physical examinations so that you stay comfortable. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
