Suggest Ways To Manage Pain After Stopping Gabapentin
I have had Chronic Lyme Disease and Fibromyalgia since 1989. I had been on Gabapentin 300mg t.i.d. for 2 years. My new PCP felt it was too much for too long and weaned me off it. After taking Tylenol Arthritis and being treated by my chiropractor since September for the flare and chronic pain I want to go back on the Gabapentin. Do I have to start out gradually with dosing or can I go back to my original dosage? I am in a major flare up.
Sorry to hear about your pain. I can understand how difficult the pain sometimes. However, we do no recommend starting gabapentin from the optimum dose. You should start it low, and increase the dose every second day to the optimum dose. For the time being you may use paracetamol for some of the pain relief.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
