Hi,

It does sound as though you have already tried most of the conventional means of addressing this (pain meds, injections, etc.) and I do see you are looking for more of a long-term solution. So, in these cases, with degenerative disc disease usually the pain only worsens over time, to be frank, several options which would provide some long-term success here would be the insertion of a spinal cord stimulator, this is really becoming more common place and in truth can provide significant relief here.

It is somewhat invasive but once in place you can adjust your own setting for the desired pain relief. Along this line, even a TENS unit (TRANCUTANEOUS ELECTRICL NERVE STIMULATOR) with pads placed topically on the back might be a less invasive option. Other thoughts although not ideal, would be, nerve ablation of the sensory nerves to that region, it is a permanent option of course and in intractable pain something we consider, it would numb the area indefinitely. These are some of the more long-lasting treatment approaches.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
