Suggest Ways To Quit Smoking

Respected Doctor, I m a 24 yrs old person(M), and I m addicted to smoking going for 10 cigarettes a day right from 16 yrs of age. Recently I tried to fight against it since it has affected my health extremely. Apparently, it affected my blood circulation and I ve possessed unhealthy skin appearance. I figured out an alternative way by starting to take khaini just to put an end to this urge of smoking. Needless to say, a few weeks ago I ve started to develop a physical workout routine and doing it regularly. Can you please help me with techniques and efforts to quit them permanently. Your input would be much appreciated. Thank you so much in advance.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, Welcome to Ask a doctor services. I have read your query.

Do continue with your physical workout routine. It is healthy & will keep you fit. Concentrate on a good diet plan which should include dry fruits, fruits, protein & food rich in minerals (calcium, iron). Give time to buy healthy food, avoid packed, frozen products. Take fresh home made food.

No, it is not good to take Khaini, instead you can take chewing gums, lozenges, hard candy, always keep small packets of mixture(dalmot or chips)take your favorite juice & stay well hydrated(take plenty of water).

When craving for smoking comes, ignore & delay. Plan out a routine that keeps you busy. Self control is the best answer.

However, medicines like Bupropion, will help to reduce cravings, it should be taken under a treating doctor or a detox center to manage withdrawal symptoms. Before taking it you are suggested to join a detox center.

Hope I have answered your question, take care.
Regards,
Dr Nupur K
