Suggest Ways To Rule Out A Concussion

Hi, I fell and hit my head the other night and didn t notice it hurting until the day after. I seem to have scraped it and there is a few bumps, it seems all connected in a 3-inch or so line. It s on the top of the skull. It seems to be scabbed over. However it is 2 days later and it still is hurting, a little pain when laying down to sleep. I have no headaches, blurred vision or anything that would give me a sign of concussion. I don t recall losing consciousness, and I don t particularly recall any bleeding. Just wondering if I need to get this checked out

Hello,

Judging from your description I do not see any reason to have it checked out. The scrapings you describe and the superficial pain is not related to concussion or any other brain damage, the brain is inside the skull. Symptoms to worry would be intense headache, confusion or changes in behavior, seizures, visual loss or double vision, weakness or numbness of the limbs.

Even if there was a very mild concussion with minor symptoms you might be missing, there is not much to be done, no particular intervention or treatment needed, only some rest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olsi Taka, Neurologist
