Suggest Ways To Wean Off Paxil

My Doctor prescribed Paxil to treat me after I was attacked on the job by a supervisor. Supvr. was transferred. It is no longer an issue. I want to stop taking Paxil completely. I met with my Doctor. He put me on 10Mg. s of Paxil to help wean me off a larger dosage. Question: How long will I have to take the lesser dosage to be completely free of this prescription?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for the query and welcome to healthcare magic.

Paxil is tapered usually in the following fashion
If starting dose is 60mg to 40 mg for 2 weeks,to 30 mg for 2 weeks, 20 mg for 2 weeks to 10mg for 2 weeks and finally 5 mg for 2 weeks.
Since you are already on 10mg ,you can be tapered off of paxil in about a month.
However there is no hard and fast rule to taper off paxil and is often individualised to each patient's response.

Suddenly stopping paxil cause bad withdrawal symptoms, because Paxil has very short half life.

Hope I was able to answer your question
Please feel free to address any more concerns
