Mom just had heart surgery and a valve was replaced. she is 83 and when she came home form the nursing home last week we saw they had her on a large dose of Potassium Chloride. 1.) Under what conditions should ANYONE be taking 1500 mg tablets 3 times a day? 2.) is it okay for her to stop taking this pill suddenly or should she be weened off of it at a much more gradual rate than full elimination at once.
It is required for every heart procedures sometimes pre operative and sometimes post operatively, measure serum levels time to time after serum level reaches it's range she may not required it.
