1. development of hernia on one side increases the risk of developing hernia on the other side, called as Companion hernia. (Improper ligation of the sac, failure to narrow the cord, or inadequate reconstruction of the internal ring can cause recurrence).
2. any increased pressure, strain or injury, causing weakness of the abdominal wall in the inguinal area?
3. symptoms associated with hernia or bulge?? any discomfort, pain
4. Detailed examination is necessary, so consult with your Doctor about the same, and moreover because its a mechanical problem, Surgical repair will be good.
5. avoid lifting heavy weight (always bend your knees and not your waist), stop smoking (cough can aggravate inguinal hernia), take fiber rich diet (which will prevent constipation), wear loose and light clothes which don't apply too much of pressure on the affected area.

Ayurveda Specialist Dr. Rajesh Lakhanpaul's  Response
Dear
Hernia means an abnormal opening. In your case this opening is in inguinal region. The cause can be straining or lifting of weight or constipation etc. Basically it is a case of surgery, its cure can not be provided by medicines. Its increase and trouble can be minimised with use of supportive belt that ensures intestines do not bulge through opening time and again. Use of mild laxative will prevent straining and ease passage of stool, no weight lifting will restrict the problem to minimal but not cure.
