Surgery On Foot Wrapped Incorrectly, Overlapped On Big Toe. Any Concerns ?

My mother had surgery on her foot a few years ago and it was wrapped incorrectly. Hence, her second toe overlaps her big toe. She is looking at a surgery where they place a pin in the toe that will never be removed. The idea that is never removed seems odd to me. Since then I've noticed how often I move/flex my toes and am concerned she will have issues with this. Would you be so kind as to advise?

Kind Regards,
A worried daughter

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

I have studied your case.

These are deformities of toe and we do not require soo fine movements of toe as we require for our hand.
So you can safely go for deformity correction surgery.
You may need extra care if your mother is having diabetes.
There will not be any problem if one joint is fixed.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care
