Suspected With Endometriosis. Suffer Pain Once A Month. Worried About The Fertility. Advised For Mirena Coil. Avoid Surgery?

Hi there,

I'm 24 I have suspected endometriosis. I only suffer terrible pain once a month and I have once spotted mid cycle and more recently have spotting (dark blood) two days before my period starts. I am very worried about my fertility, I want to ensure that it's not affected. I have been advised to have the mirena coil but Ive heard this could be painful if you haven't had kids. The other option would be a pill with progesterone only. Do you think I should try the pill or by avoiding surgery am I at risk of not getting rid of what's there already as theres no way of knowing what level I have.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated x

Hello and welcome to HCM,

Endometriosis is presence of uterine glands and stroma at sites other that the normal site- lining of the uterus.
Endometriosis is seen in number of healthy uteruses.
It does not affect the fertility.
The symptoms caused by endometriosis are mentraual abnormalities, menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, etc.
There are various contraceptives available in the market.
The choice of contraceptive depends on the age, and parity of the women.
The oral contraceptives are best suited for nulliparous women (nulliparous woman is one who has never borne children before).
The Mirena coil is also a safe alternative.
The coil releases small quantities of hormone (progesterone) over aperiod of time.
It is quite safe with few side effects in the initial stages like increased bleeding, dysmenorrhoea, etc.
Usage of oral contraceptives requires complete physical examination before usage.
In case, you want to use oral contraceptives, you need to consult your gynecologist.

Thanks and take care
