Swollen Knees After Carrying Child. Taking Advil. Anything Else?

Hi, I had to carry my 40lb son for over three hours last night. We were walking or moving over rough terrain.

Today I woke up with swollen knees. I'm having a hard time putting weight on my left knee and going up and down stairs really aggravates the pain.

I am taking Advil and am now putting my feet up to rest. Is there anything else I should do?

hi,
thank you for your query.

A knee may appear swollen from an injury to the tendons, ligaments or meniscus; from arthritis or another medical problem; or from overuse. The swelling might be within the knee joint or in the surrounding tissue. People call the latter “water on the knee.” A forceful injury to the soft tissue surrounding the knee can cause fluid and/or blood to accumulate.

i would suggest few tips to reduce the pain and inflammation-

1.take rest, give the knee time to heal
2.apply ice till the swelling reduces
3.while sleeping keep legs elevated.
4.you can use NSAID'S and anti-inflammatory drugs.

if the swelling persists for more than 3 days kindly consult your GP.

thank you,
wishing you good health

Hi,
It seems that carrying weight of your son for 3 hours might be giving strain of knee joint muscles giving you this problem.
Take Advil tablet as and when required.
Do ice pack 2-3 times a day.
Give complete rest to the joint.
Apply Knee cap on the joint.
Ok and take care.
