Swollen Right Foot From Base, Stiffened, Red And Tender With Headaches. What Could It Be ?
Since Thursday, after a long drive, my right foot , top center to left about 4 inches up from base of big toe , is a little red, slightly swollen and tender. It is painful esp in the AM when getting up. Movement helps but also feels stiff. A real pain. I plan on seeing a podiatrist next week, but just wondering of what it could be. NSAIDS cause me rebound headaches so I avoid them. Any thoughts? And thanks.

From the description, it seems to be due to an inflammation of the first metatarsal joint. It can be due to gout. Treatment involves taking regular pain killers and anti inflammatory medicines and a hot fomentation in the affected area.

According to your description swelling over your left foot seems to be inflammatory in nature, might develop after prolonged exertion during your long drive.
I advice you to give you rest to your foot, take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin 1 tablet with food as and when required (upto 4 tablets daily) to reduce pain and inflammation and consult your doctor for thorough examination of foot and rule out any infective cause.
