Swollen Right Testicle With Pain And Soreness From Epididymis. Lower Right Abdominal Aching, Nausea. Had Undergone Vasectomy. Is Epididymitis Caused Due To Vasectomy?

Hi, for the last 7 days i have had a swollen right testicle with pain and soreness from the epididymis, also had lower right abdominal aching and a feeling of nausea but havn't actually been sick. I had a vasectomy 4 months ago and when i went to see my doctor on tuesday he said he thinks its epididymitis and did some urine samples and gave me some antibiotics called ciprofloxacin...Since then when i phoned for my results my tests for epididymitis have come back negative... I now also seem to have a pea sized lump on the top of my epididymis which is painful when touched...I also have started having aching pains in my bottom... Could all this still be epididymitis caused by the vasectomy, or would the tests have shown this?

Thanks.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The tests would not have shown whether any infection present is related to the procedure.

In some men who undergo vasectomy, there is pain in the epididymis and testes. This is due to chronic epididymal congestion of sperm that continues to be produced after surgery. This occurs in approximately 1 out of 1000 men who have the procedure.

In epididymitis the urine culture may not be positive even though the infection is present.

Your doctor may consider altering the medication if there appears to be no response in case there is bacterial resistance to that particular bacteria.

If there is no response he may consider if the discomfort is related to congestion as mentioned earlier.
This is treated surgically.

I hope this helps
