Swollen Tonsils, Blood In Spit. Is It A Cause Of Concern?

I was diagnosed with strep last week and put on amoxicilin , i believe i passed it on to my boyfriend because his tonsils are starting to swell and hes not feeling too well. The thing that worries me is he says there is blood in his spit, is this something i should consider to be a major concern? He doesnt have health insurance currently, so im trying to figure out the best way to handle this

hi there, it is possible that you could have passed on the infection to your boyfriend. If the blood is just streaks in the sputum it could be due to vigerous coughing and it will get better as the condition improves, but if he is getting frank blood in his sputum then you need to consult a doctor for the same. He will need antibiotic coverage for his infection as well and so you will need to visit a health care provider to get aprescription for the same. He could try hot water gargle and some anti-inflammatory for the time being to give him symptomatic relief. Take care.
