Symptoms Of Bladder Infection Plus Blood Red Urine. Would This Be Bladder Cancer ?
Hi and thank you,
On Monday I had symptoms of a bladder infection plus blood red urine (not slightly tinted). I got in to the Dr. on Monday afternoon and the urine in the cup looked like it was all blood. I got a diagnosis that my bladder lining was irritated and given an antibiotic plus something to ease the pain (turns urine orange), but the Dr. said he didn't know what color mine would be with all the blood. He is also doing a culture. My concern is that I might have bladder cancer (I have been on Victoza for over a year). I am responding nicely from the antibiotic and the bleeding has stopped. If this were cancer, would it respond to the antibiotic.
Many drugs and especially antibiotics change the colour of urine, like rifampicin changes urine colour to pink and so on.
Bladder cancer usually starts in people of 50 + age , usually the first symptom mostly is blood in urine , and that blood coloured urine usually does not responds to antibiotics and then we do CT kidney and bladder and with a urethroscope and we see it.
You should not worry at all , and for sure its urinary tract infection with heamaturia , that is very common , and gets a good response from antibiotics.
Hope this helps
