Taken Benedryl And Zyrtec For Itchy Hives. Have Heartburn Also. Related Symptoms?
Hello. I believe sea food I had last night are responsibile for a pretty remarkable case of hives which began in the middle of the night. So...I have taken benedryl and one zyrtec which have eased the itching a bit (thank Goodness!). However, I am also experiencing heart burn (it began this morning ) and I wonder if the two reactions are related, and if taking a Pepto bismal will impair the efficacy of the antihistamine. I am on vacation, so I really appreciate your advice.

Welcome to CM.Yes,the allergy is caused by mediators like histamine which also increase the acid secretion in the stomach.You can take the Peptobismol,as also a H2 blocker like ranitidine may help reduce the heartburn,as also the allergy too.
