Taken Vasograin For Migraine. Now Frequent Headache, Vomiting, Blood In Vomit. Suggestion?

Hello,
I am suffering from migraine for the last 6-7 years and whenever i get migraine i used to have the tablet "Vasograin". During initial days 1 tablet will provide relief within an hour or so but now a days I am getting frequent headache atleast 2-3 times a week and each time I need to take 2-3 pills (sometimes 4 pills). Worst case ends in vomiting.

The problem now a days is when I vomit during migraine headache, I can see blood during vomiting. Can you please suggest me is there any serious issue to consult a doctor.

Thanks
Madhavan

Hi,

Since you have migraine with increased frequency of attacks you should be on prophylactic drugs (any one -propanolol, flunnarzine, valparic acid, topiramate) which will prevent headache attacks.

During headache attacks vasograin can be taken. Vasograin contains ergotamine which is vasoconstrictor drug which causes serious side effecst this include ischemia to heart and intestine, it also causes pulmonary fibrosis.

Now that you are having hematemesis (vomiting of blood),you should be evaluated in detail including platelet count, bleeding and clotting time with Ultrasound scan of abdomen.

If you were my patient here I would put you on prophylactic drugs with Naprosyn with domperidone during attacks. If no relief then triptans should be tried instead of vasograin

Consult gasteroenterologist for evaluation of hematemesis.

Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.
Since you have frequent attacks of migraine headaches, you should start preventive medications, such as beta blockers, flunarizine or topiramate.
Blood in vomiting may be due to gastric ulcer or gastritis, so, please consult a gastroenterologist.
Please get back if you require any additional information.

Best wishes,
