Taken Amoxicillin And Nystatin For Paronychia On Finger. Is Its Effectiveness Compromised By Using Frequently?
Hi, I am a bartender and i have a stubborn infection on my finger. Diagnosed as paronychia. I had my first round of antibiotics/Amoxocilin. That was not effective. So, I am now on to a topicalNystatin-Triam. It seemed to be working but is now after 6 days seeming to lose effectiveness. It says only use twice a day and leave uncovered. My doc said 2 to 3 times a day and cover it.
Am I compromising it's effectiveness by using it more than twice, should I keep it covered or uncovered and should I be doing hot soaks or anything in between?
Hi Anthony, Welcome to healthcare magic. The nail bed infection or whitlow may be resistant to treatment if there is pus formation or if the causative microorganisms are resistant. The fingers should remain dry all the time. Keep the affected hand elevated above the level of the heart. Apply antibacterial cream thrice a day and keep the nail open. If there is pus it needs to drained by a clinician. The hot soaks are of unproven value. I hope the advise will be helpful for you.
