Taken Prednisolone For Giant Cell Arteritis. Mood Swings, Depression, Headache After Stopping Medicine. Help

For 20 months I was taking prednsolone for Giant Cell Arteritis (Temporal). Recent blood tests showed I was in the clear and so after moving down month by month by 1 mg I stopped at the end of June. My withdrawal symptons are that I feel moody and mildly depressed and have a slight nagging hedache at the back of my head. I am 77. I was of course also on 10 mg Omeprazole which also stopped at the same time. How long might I expect this situation.

hi
welcome to health care magic,

Prednisolone is a drug which if given for longer periods decreases cortisol

production .The drug must be tapered slowly as to give time for adrenal gland

to resume its function.

Though tapered slowly some patients may experience withdrawal symptoms

like fatigue,weakness,joint pains,headache.

Sometimes the patient requires very gradual tapering of steroids or may

require steroids in periods of stress .

The condition u r experiencing may last for week to several months. If severe

may require restarting of steroids .

HOPE U FOUND THIS HELPFUL
