Taking Acamprol, Stalopam, Topaz For Alcoholism. Can I Be A Social Drinker?

hi i have been treated for alcoholism by a well known doctor.its been a month since i have been sober,absolutely no craving from day one. i am on acamprol twice a day,stalopam plus,topaz 50,pbren.all once a day.there is no craving at all.when i was drinking i used to drink 3 pegs i.e 180ml everyday & not more than that.i would like to confine with you that i was not happy drinking every day.i always wanted to be a social drinker.now my question is once i come out of this addiction problem totally & i am free of all medications,can i be a social drinker with all the determination putforth.& also would like to have your honest opinion whether there will be any side effects i drink again( not on a regular basis) please advice.

Hi,

Nice to know that you have been off alcohol for about a month now, but I would like you to know that you are not out of the woods yet. Around ninety percent people relapse within a year of quitting alcohol, so you have to be very careful at least for a year, maybe more. You should continue with acamprol and topaz in proper dosage for at least a year. Whether social drinking is feasible or not after that would depend on the situation at that point of time, but each drink increases the chance of relapse. Regarding side effects, again its the same. Each drink has some side effects, the more you drink and the weaker your body is, the more are the side effects. So please do not worry and take each day as it comes, trying to remain alcohol free on a day to day basis, without looking too far ahead into the future.
