Taking Depo Shot After An Ectopic Pregnancy, Continuous Bleeding. Need To Change Birth Control?

Hi, i started the Depo shot in February after having an ectopic pregnancy from BCP. I have been bleeding continuously for about 2-3 weeks out of the month since my first shot. My doctor suggested that i take BCP together with the shot, but the bleeding is still there. Should i wait out the first year or should i change to another form of birth control

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
Being on depo some amount of fluctuation in the hormonal levels can be seen.
And that can lead to irregular periods.
Usually this will subside soon.
But as you are having continuous bleeding, you can use additional hormones as suggested by your doctor.
Check whether you are using low dose pills.
It that case measures like :
- Using high dose hormonal pills or
-Using high dose progesterone pills from 5th to 25th day of the cycle
Can help in stopping the bleeding and in regularization of cycles.
Once the bleeding gets controlled, you can continue with depo.
For more details you can ask me directly through the premium forum.
Take care.
