Hello Dr . My name is Sherrie and 20 mths ago I had my Thryoid out and I am on Thyroxine for life . My problem is we can not get it balanced .I had chest pain yesterday and felt terrible , but after all the right heart tests done by my local hospital , my heart was clear , My thyroid levels dropped to 0.03 six weeks ago and I had a shocking week of complete weakness , nausea , vomiting , and I slept for two days .I haven't felt right since , At the moment I an on 150gm and feel tied again . When I felt at my best my levels were 16 , dose it really matter what your levels are if everything feels fine ?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Dear Sherrie,

Thanks for the query. The most important parameter, I agree is how you feel. Nevertheless, it seems that you have been following the levels of your free hormone, instead of the TSH, which is the general, average indicator of your thyroid function. The dose of the L thyroxine should be titrated to have a TSH within the normal accepted range, at the same time that it makes you feel well.

Hope that helps, wish you the best,
