Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been taking tramadol for about ten yrs. 50 mg a day for about 7 yrs, and 100 mg a day for the last three yrs. I was on it for a few yrs before and went off cold turkey and had miserable withdrawal. Very restless at night, sweats and chills, complete fatigue. Four weeks ago I underwent a spinal fusion and was put on oxycodone. I took it for three weeks and during that time did not take any tramadol, hoping to be able to get off it. It's been six days since my last oxy and four weeks since my last tramadol. For those six days I've been experiencing the same withdrawal symptoms as the last time I stopped tramadol. Can I be withdrawing from tramadol after four weeks? How long will this last?
Both Tramadol and Oxycodone have mu agonist activity and are opioid analgesics. Both have withdrawal symptoms. Going cold turkey is not the best option here rather always try seeking help of your doctor and taper off the doses. It takes time for the withdrawal symptoms to stop completely, it is a very gradual process.
Thank you
Take care.
