I am a 22 year old female and I just started birth control (orthocyclen I believe) 11 days ago. I smoke 5-8 cigarettes a day and was told I would have to quit soon to continue on the pill. yesterday afternoon I started having chest pain in the middle of my chest while sitting at my computer at work. just a dull ache radiating through my upper back and I got short of breath. it lasted a few hours then went away. I woke up this morning feeling fine but now the chest pain is back. not radiating through my back anymore and no shortness of breath just a dull ache now more towards the left side of my chest. do you know what could be causing this?
You are taking birth control pills. It is always advisable to quit smoking while on birth control drugs. Smoking is always injurious to helth, you know well.
Regarding the pain at the centre of the chest may not be worrying too much. Acidity associated with birth control pills, anxiety about quitting smoking etc can cause such pain. But if breathlessness is present often, it is better to consult a GP for further advice.
Wish you speedy recovery
