Taking Levothyroxine For Hypothyroidism. Thyroid Levels Normal. Experiencing Significant Hair Loss. Armour Or Naturethyroid?

Hi my name is Tamara and I'm 37 years old. I have been taking levothyroxine for hypothyroidism for about 7 years. I started at .25 mcgs and then increased to .50 about 6 months ago and then increased again to alternating .50/.75 mcg about 3 months ago. My thyroid levels are now normal however I'm experiencing a significant hair loss and I'm really getting concerned about this. Also, overall I'm just not feeling very well. Should I go back down to .50 and try that? Or could I be a candidate for a more natural thyroid med like Armour or Naturethyroid?

Hi Tamara,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic,
You are having Hypothyroidism and taking replacement therapy 50 & 75 mcg alternate days and you have mentioned your thyroid level is normal.

Hypothyroidism can cause hair fall but as your thyroid functions are restored to normal other causes like infection, hormonal imbalance and Anemia should be investigated and treated.
You can discuss with your Endocrinologist about the supplementation of T3 along with Thyroxine.

Take care of diet and proper exercise if necessary serum B12 and Vitamin D3 may be tested and corrected if required.

You may want to visit a Dermatologist for expert opinion.

Take care.
Good Luck
