Taking Medicine For Sinus Infection. Nosebleed, Blood Collection Under Skin. Related?

My husband has been on medication for a severe sinus infection for the last week. This morning when he washed his face one pore on the tip of his nose began bleeding . As soon as he would wipe the blood away more would follow and it appeared to be pooling beneath the skin. It was dark red in color. He s also had a small scabbed over area on the side of his nose that he s had for about a month. Could any of these things be related and what could be causing this to happen?

Hello and welcome to HCM ,

At the offset let me assure you that nose bleed in any age is very common and most of the time is a harmless phenomenon which can be easily cured and controlled.

Since your husband has sinus infection I would like you to consider the following:

1. If he has only sinusitis then he must complete the course of medication and get further evaluation with CT and nasal endoscopy and get back to me or any ENT with the reports.
2. If the nose bleed is only occasional and not very sever then you can just clean the area with a clean cloth gently and leave it at that
3. If he is getting recurrent nose bleed then he must undergo a complete blood analysis including coagulation profile and get back to me with the reports
4. During CT of the sinuses you may also find out if he has deviated nasal septum which can cause nose bleed and is very much curable.
5. Avoid meddling or picking the nose and keep your nails trimmed and blunt. This is actually one of the leading causes of nose bleed across all ages!
6. Get an evaluation of his blood pressure

Since he had a scabbed area on the side of the nose, it would most probably be a traumatic nose bleed due to a small injury during rubbing the nose or picking so do not worry.

If he does not get better and if the nose bleed gets severe do the above tests and get back to me.

Avoid anything cold and do steam inhalation

take care and get well soon
