Teenager. Tender And Slightly Painful Pea Sized Bumps On Upper Right Thigh. Reason?
I'm 19 years old at 5' 10" and 130 lbs. On my upper right thigh where the crease between my leg and my pelvis is there are about four or five pea sized bumps in a straight line below the skin. The are not visible, with no skin coloration nor hotter than normal. The area is only tender at the most and only hurts when i push down on it. I felt a similar area on my other thigh/pelvis crease and it seemed like a deep artery, except that there was no bumps. What could these tender bumps be?
Hi, Welcome and thanks for posting your query to HCM. After reading your query there is a possibilities of enlarging superficial inguinal lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are the simple structure which are the check points of body's immune system which prevents the spread of infection from one place to the other. So you understand that lymph nodes have clinical significance and these become inflamed or enlarged in various conditions of body which are beyond discussion. These are said to be normal if less than or equal to 1 centimeter. In your case these inguinal lymph nodes are tender on movement only and are not enlarged per say ( as pea size is almost equal to 1 cm making it almost normal). There could be multiple causes of it - one can be in lower legs ( if you have any infection) or infection in genital tract. The other side of nodes might be just enlarging over the artery sot hat to give appearance of the artery so should not be bothered much. The most important suggestion is that a if these become more painful or enlarged then should meet a surgeon/ Dermatologist (according to your related problem of either legs or genital tract infection) who can help you out in diagnosing the condition at his best. Hope to give you the best of the information. With best health wishes, Dr Sanjay K Kanodia MD ( Dermatology and STD/ Venereology)
What you are describing appear to be lymphadenopathies resulting from enlarge lymph nodes. The most common cause if infectious. Skin infections of the lower extremity are known to be associated with enlargement of lymph nodes. Also other infections such as STDs, including primary syphilis and herpes could cause lymphadenopathies. Rare causes include tumors and cancers.
Hope this helps you. If you have further query, i will be glad to help you. Best regards Dr Achuo
