Tender Lump On Forearm, Formed While Trying To Find A Vein For A Blood Test. Pain Management?

My nurse was taking my blood but she could not find a vein right away. So, she took her needle and didn t raise it all the way, searching for a vein. After a few wiggles, she could find it. my question is.. after this procedure I had gotten a tender lump on my forearm that stings randomly and its so sharp and sudden. What could this ensue?

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

The swelling looks like arisen from bleeding under the skin due to release of blood from the vein after needle prick.

Nothing to worry as this swelling subside within 24 to 48 hours due re absorption of of blood into surrounding tissue.

For pain you can apply ice packs intermittently.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.

General & Family Physician Dr. Ramesh M.Vachharajani's  Response
Hi,
It seems that there might be having some extravasation of blood in surrounding area or having thrombophlebitis in fore arm giving rise to this problem.
Apply ice pack 2-3 times a day.
Go for one antibiotic medicine course after consulting your doctor.
Ok and take care.
